The Password is Tallulah

30 Oct

We haven’t dressed up for Halloween for a couple years now, so when we heard about a Speakeasy event this weekend, i jumped at the chance to go out. The bar was glamming up for the night, putting cigars and cards on the patio, and having people enter through the back door with a password. We were slightly outside of our comfort zone going to something like this without really knowing anyone that would be there, but I’m glad that we went. The gin was cheap and we sat and watched a live jazz band that was amazing!

Red Velvet Waffles

28 Oct

This Red Velvet Waffle recipe with Cream Cheese Syrup has been kicking around on my Pinterest board for over a year. Jericho and I had a free morning this Sunday, so I woke up a little early to throw these together. I doubled the amount of red coloring I used, but they’re still a little more pink that red. Such is life! One of these days I’ll remember to double one of these waffle recipes so I can throw some in the freezer so I can take one to work Eggo-style. We are piggies so there are never leftovers from a single batch. 🙂

Cat-tastic Weekend

21 Oct

I spent most of my weekend napping with this guy. I wish every morning was this relaxing. He’s so freaking cute that I ended up taking so many photos of him. I’m gonna go out on a limb and say his transition to being an indoor kitty is going well. 😉

Pizza Dough and Sauce

18 Oct

It’s nice to leave early from work sometimes and have a lazy midweek afternoon for relaxing. There’s something so darn satisfying about playing hooky! With all the extra time to make dinner, we decided on fresh pizza. We even had time to get fancy and roast a clove of garlic to add to the mix. Jericho said the roasted garlic went well with the pineapple topping he put on his. I went with my favorite pizza veggies and some shedded chicken under the cheese. This recipe for dough and sauce has always been kind to us as long as we have a few hours to let the yeast rise.

Chipotle Chicken and Corn Chowder

16 Oct

I’m so happy the seasons are changing because it’s nice to settle in for the night with a hot bowl of soup. We made a batch of this Chipotle Chicken and Corn Chowder (linked here) over the weekend and had leftovers for daysss. Making it was slightly an ordeal just because there are so many ingredients going into it, so it is definitely easier to make on a weekend than after work M-F. This would be the perfect way to use up leftover or even rotisserie chicken from the store. This is definitely a new favorite for us!

(PS I used a hatch pepper because none of the stores near me carry poblano peppers. Came out great, though a jalapeno might work well if you want more of a kick.)

Apple Cider Waffles

14 Oct

This weekend was perfect! Just the right amount of laziness and productivity. Recently I was cleaning out a cupboard and found a new waffle iron which had been a housewarming present stashed away from several years ago. Nice surprise! I’m thinking Sunday will become our traditional waffle day, starting last week with some frozen pumpkin waffles from Trader Joe’s. This week, armed with a waffle iron, I whipped up these Apple Cider Waffles in less than 20 minutes from start to finish. We sat out on the porch with some coffee and enjoyed some perfect weather.

From there we started some cleaning/organizing projects. I hope I can finish soon so I can finally post some before & after pics of the bedroom!

Treat Yo Self

9 Oct

Since I’m hardcore cutting back on shopping and only using babysitting money to splurge on things, I decided to buy a pair of shoes I’ve been lusting over for months, these Law of the Landscape Flats by Restricted. It’s more money than I usually spend on shoes, but if I only buy a couple pairs of shoes a  year, I may as well make those purchases count. The real motivating factor was when I happened onto Modcloth and saw they were down to 3 last pairs which happened to be in 7.5, my size. Phew! If the world was a perfect place, these would be about a half size bigger, though. Not sure if they run small or if my feet are just too wide, but I can only wear these with thin socks or it gets too cramped and painful in there.

When I bought these I was afraid they would be too hard to pair with my outfits, but I’ve been pleasantly surprised that they match just about everything. I get so many compliments when I wear these. It makes me feel so fancy! Point of my story is if these go back up on Modcloth, buy them up!

The only drawback was one of my buttons fell off the 2nd day I was wearing them. Luckily, I found it under my desk so I just have to attach it back on once I can buy some Gorilla Glue.
